Originally built in the 1930s as an executive retreat for the Hydro power scheme, The Lodge at Tarraleah has been lovingly converted into a boutique luxury lodge, combining contemporary elegance with art-deco origins. Luxurious suites and guest rooms all have king beds, silk doonas, mohair throws, Tasmanian art and indulgent bathrooms with heated floors and unique spa baths that light up at night.
The indulgence continues throughout The Lodge. Cooked breakfasts in the Lodge breakfast room; pre-dinner drinks and canapes in the Library cocktail bar; a gourmet experience in Wildside Restaurant. The 4-course evening meal features Tasmanian produce presented with passion and flair by resident chef Will Godman, along with an impressive selection of 300 local and international wines. How about a night cap? Displayed in the Lodge whisky cabinet are over 120 fine single malts! Wildlife, wilderness, walks and waterfalls there are over 80 bird species in the region. The Waterfall Walk is a 1-hour return walk starting from the Teez Cafe. Take the special journey along the path through temperate rainforest with towering gums and huge ferns, often accompanied by the intriguing songs of lyrebirds. The Waterfall Walk includes a 5-metre high wooden board walk and a cantilevered viewing platform overlooking Tarraleah Falls. |
Experience the Highlands by kayak, mountain bike and 4WD with an 'Adventure Tarraleah' guide. Join an evening guided wildlife tour, spot unique Tasmanian animals and witness brilliant star-studded night skies. Play golf on Tasmania's highest course - established for over 60 years, the Tarraleah Golf Club adjoins the estate. Help feed the estate's hairy Highland cattle. Stalk the world's purest wild Brown trout. Learn to fly fish or perfect the art on foot or by boat with a Tarraleah fishing guide. Fishing licenses, flies, lures, clothing and accessories are all available at the Loomis Pro-tackle Fishing Store.
Take a break from the activities and tease & tantalise your taste buds at the licensed Teez Cafe, offering lunch, high teas and treats. Enjoy fresh mountain air and sensational views whilst dining on the balcony, or relax by the central wood fire with an espresso coffee, Tasmanian beer or glass of fine local wine. Tarraleah is a scenic 2-hour drive from Hobart, Launceston or the Devonport ferry terminal and is situated along the popular Hobart - Strahan touring route. Airport transfers are available.
