GORDON RIVER CRUISES

The Cruise

Follow in the wake of the original West Coast pioneers on an unforgettable cruise up the mighty Gordon River. Wonder at the mirror-like reflections and allow the unique scenery and some of the freshest air in the world to relax and reinvigorate you. Relax as friendly nature guides give you their individual attention. Disembark at Heritage Landing and stroll the elevated walkway through World Heritage listed rainforest where the Huon pine trees have grown for over 2000 years.

Step ashore and tour the ruins of the brutal penal colony on Sarah Island with a guide from the renowned Round Earth Theatre Company. Visit a working fish farm before sailing towards Hells Gates, the notorious entrance from the Southern Ocean to Macquarie Harbour. Every Gordon River Cruise departure features all the attractions in the harbour and on the river, plus expert nature guides. Luncheons are created from Tasmania's renowned cuisine.

The Lady Jane Franklin
After extensive visitor consultation, the design brief to the naval architects was simple: "Give us the fastest, quietest, most comfortable, environmentally friendly vessel, which will deliver a quality experience to match the world's most beautiful wilderness".

The result is the Lady Jane Franklin, showcasing the latest in technology and environmental standards and offering unprecedented appreciation of the superb riverine wilderness. The multi-million dollar vessel has been designed specifically for World Heritage Area access, ensuring minimal impact to one of the world's last remaining pristine river systems.

The Lady Jane Franklin is the most environmentally friendly catamaran ever built in Australia, with the lowest wash and the quietest engines on the river. Three distinct styles of seating ensure that everyone gets a choice, and the spacious designer interior features colour schemes which blend naturally with the wilderness. Of course there's plenty of deck space for that 'wind in your hair' experience.

To complement the arrival of the Lady Jane Franklin, Gordon River Cruises has a new departure terminal featuring weather protected arrivals and departures. And there's a new Wild Rivers wilderness concept store and Fish Cafe for your enjoyment, shopping and comfort ashore. Gordon River Cruises also offers great value packages containing a cruise, accommodation and the critically acclaimed live theatrical performance 'The Ship That Never Was'.
