Somercotes Historic Estate, c1823 is one of Australia's most significent cultural and historic properties. The original Colonial Cottages which were once occupied by families who were indentured from England, now offer authentic and cosy accommdoation and are set in their own private gardens and old orchard with great views over the English style countryside. Take a stroll and experience the classified

buildings on the property or try some trout fishing in the Macquarie River which is easily accessible from the cottages and famous for its trout fishing and sightings of platypus. A cherry orchard is being developed with many varieties of juicy, fresh cherries during the picking

season and this can be seen on a short stroll up Horton Hill. The magnificent views from here are a must for the keen photographer and native birds such as hawks, magpies, noisy minors, wattle birds, just to name a few, will be seen on either of these walks.
