MOUNTAIN BIKE TASMANIA

Mountain Bike Tasmania is a tour guiding company based in Launceston in Northern Tasmania. The company caters specifically to the mountain bike market.

We provide quality Avanti bikes which are equipped with hydraulic disc brakes to give great control on our trips which usually have a predominantly downhill focus. This means that as long as you can ride a bike you will be able to complete our tours.

All trips start and finish at Mountain Designs, 120 Charles Street Launceston.

'Pedal About' the Riverside Trails
Take a leisurely morning to soak up some of Launceston's waterfront atmosphere (figuratively speaking!). The majority of the circuit follows the meandering banks of Launceston's rivers and with no major hill climbs you can take it pretty easy. The ride heads off along the Elphin Road cycle way, which connects us to the North Esk River cycle track. Tracing the curves of the river it's sometimes easy to forget you are still in the heart of the Launceston city. We leave the banks of the North Esk to follow the Tamar River which we cross on the Kings Bridge, catching a glimpse the spectacular Cataract Gorge as we pass.

Trevallyn Reserve Tour
If you only have a few hours and want to explore some of Launceston's most popular tracks then this trip is for you. The Trevallyn Recreation Area borders our world famous Cataract Gorge and has everything from 'cruisy' fire trails to fun single-track sections. On this trip, ride via the West Tamar River trail and follow a gradual climb up to the edge of the Trevallyn Reserve. We can then explore

the great variety of fire trails in this popular mountain bike area. We have earned a breather so before we return we will dismount and walk our bikes back through what is arguably Launceston's best natural treasure, the Cataract Gorge.

Ben Lomond Descent Tour
This tour is mostly downhill (sorry, yes that was mostly!) so hold on and enjoy the ride. This ride is of the ultimate mountain bike descents possible in Tasmania with a total drop of 1050 vertical metres. Starting at the Ben Lomond Ski Village this awesome trip takes you down one of the most spectacular roads in Tasmania, Jacobs Ladder. Our local guides will take you through the eucalypt forests along some old four wheel drive tracks and onto one of the best single-track descents in northern Tasmania, part of the annual Ben Lomond Descent multi sport race. We then continue on fire trails and other single track to our finishing point on the Blessington Road at 400 metres.
