YAKKALLA HOLIDAY COTTAGE
Yakkalla Holiday Cottage is situated just 8km from the main township of Whitemark, on Flinders Island. It is nestled in the foothills of the Darling Range overlooking the spectacular scenery of Pillingers Peak, Haulands Gap and the majestic Mt Strezlecki. It is situated directly opposite one of the Islands must see panoramas, the Walkers Lookout. Its central location makes easy access to both the West and East Coast beaches, as well as other attractions at Lady Barron and Emita. A one hour journey will take you to the northern most scenic locations of Palana and the Northeast River.   The modern cottage was completed in April 2006. It has two bedrooms, one with a queen size bed and the other a tri bed which will cater for another couple or two singles. A portable cot is also available. Good quality furnishings have been used throughout the cottage. Take a soothing shower and watch over Haulands Gap, or relax on the seat of the bay window and watch the changing colours of Pillingers Peak. Wheelchair access is available to and in the cottage. Barbecue facilities are also available.
Close by to the cottage are numerous walking tracks where the unique scenery, flora and fauna of the island can be viewed. The walks are of varying length and difficulty. Sit back on the front veranda and watch the soaring wedge tail eagle and numerous other interesting and unique birds of the Furneaux Islands. Within the foothills live the rare and endangered forty-spotted pardelote. The cottage is surrounded by natural bushland, including the Cape Barren Pine and Grass Tree. The rising and setting of the sun offer the avid photographer spectacular shots of the ever-changing mountain colours.
