BICHENO PENGUIN TOURS

 
Bicheno's famous rookery allows participants to view these penguins in their own environment. Participants are transported from the Bicheno Penguin Tours shop or from selected accommodation and are guided in small groups through the rookery, returning to the shop or accommodation approximately one hour later. The tour visits a rookery on private property, which is not accessible by the public. 		 
Participants get very close to the penguins. The penguin tour allows participants to interact safely with the penguins, so as not to disturb them. Loud noises and camera flashes will scare the penguins but video and digital cameras are welcome and can make use of existing lighting for photography.

Penguin numbers fluctuate with seasons. From January to May, participants may see up to 100 penguins.

   In June, July and August, numbers increase usually to between 150 and 200 birds. In December, numbers begin to decline to around 150. This information is provided as a rough guide only.

Participants should wear covered footwear year round and very warm clothing in winter.
